William Daniel 'Stits' Stillarty died Tuesday, April 19th in Wilkes-Barre surrounded by those he loved.
Born March 12, 1954 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Billie D. and Jane Pringle Stillarty.
Bill was a 1973 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School where he was a member of the football team. He attended Luzerne County Community College.
Bill was employed in the transportation department of Klein Candy/Coremark until retiring.
A true sportsman, he was a fair golfer, a good fisherman and a better hunter. He enjoyed many years of spending weekends with his close circle of friends, most that he knew since childhood, at their hunting retreat.
Those who knew Bill best would say that one of his greatest enjoyments was watching his Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoons. He was rarely seen without his Penn State cap.
Although he was a bachelor and had no children of his own, he adored and was proud of his nieces and nephews, and was affectionately known as Uncle Be Be.
His sister, Karen Groshek preceded him in death.
Bill will be greatly missed by his sisters, Judith and her husband Brian Svegel of Colorado, Toni and her husband Michael Kaufmann of Shavertown; his devoted brother, Daniel and his wife Lori Stillarty of West Wyoming; nieces and nephews, including his godchild, Dr. Tory Tomassetti-Long and her husband Jason Long of Louisiana, Robbie and Heather Svegel of Colorado, Danielle Stillarty of West Wyoming and Holly and Richard Groshek.
Bill’s entire family is grateful for the comfort and kindness that the nurses, aides and staff of Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital shared with him in his final days.
Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held Wednesday with visitation from 10 to 11 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre followed by services at 11 AM led by Pastor David Miklas. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
