William Benjamin Morris, 77, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on September 19, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, after a brief illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on January 21, 1948, Bill was the son of the late James Morris and Catherine (Tibbett) Morris. He graduated from E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1965, earned his bachelor's degree from Wilkes University, and later went on to complete a master's degree in education at Bloomsburg University.
Bill began his teaching career in the Poconos at Pleasant Valley High School before moving to New York City, where he taught business courses until his retirement. New York quickly became his true home. He loved the energy of the city, especially attending Broadway shows, and built a full and vibrant life surrounded by his close circle of friends. His Greenwich Village apartment, overlooking 6th Avenue, became a special gathering place where friends and family created countless cherished memories. He especially enjoyed entertaining, hosting dinner parties, and cooking for others-always making those around his table feel welcome.
Family was always at the center of Bill's life. He loved cookouts and holidays together, where his dry sense of humor and kindness always shone. He shared a deep bond with his nieces and nephews, and especially cherished the joy of watching the next generation grow. Visits from family to New York were some of his happiest times, as he loved hosting them and sharing the magic of the city.
In 2022, Bill returned to Wilkes-Barre, grateful for the chance to be near family once again. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Catherine, and his brothers, James and Steven. He is survived by his sisters, Gail Morris of Wilkes-Barre, Diane Garinger of Tucson, AZ, and Leslie Sosinski and her husband Mike of Wilkes-Barre. He is also lovingly remembered by his seven nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.
Bill will be remembered as a devoted brother, a beloved uncle, a treasured friend, and a man who brought warmth, laughter, and connection wherever he went. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Celebration of Bill's Life takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10 AM, followed by a time of sharing at 11 AM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
