William T. Barnes

William T. Barnes, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Kingston on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Born November 6, 1956 in Towanda he was a son of Carolyn Case Barnes of Kingston and the late James H. Barnes.

Bill grew up in New Albany and graduated from Wyalusing High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He continued his education by studying Criminal Justice at Mansfield State University.

Bill then entered into service with the US Air Force and honorably served our country as part of a special security group stationed on bases with nuclear weapons.

After his service, Bill went to work as a security officer for PPL's Salem Nuclear Power Plant. At the time of his retirement, he was a manager writing and reviewing policies and procedures for nuclear power plants.

An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman: sailfish on the ocean and salmon on Lake Ontario. He loved sports and was a lifetime fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bill loved people and had many friends. He was an amateur chef and joyfully celebrated all holidays.

His mother Carolyn; brother J. Peter Barnes; brother Daniel C. and his wife Sally Barnes; sister Carol Lynn and her husband Kaihan Tavakoli; nieces and nephews Brian, Danny, and Thomas Barnes, and Karen, Katie, and Kurt Tavakoli; and grandnieces and nephews Riley, Benjamin, Samuel and Emmett; and other family and friends will miss him very much.

Celebration of Bill's Life takes place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, with visitation from 5 to 8 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.
