Theresa Schappert Murphy

Theresa C Murphy, 96, of Wilkes Barre, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Born October 16, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre she was the daughter of the late Emil and Catherine Lyons Schappert.

A Saint Mary's High School graduate, Theresa dedicated many years to raising her family and later worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue before retiring.

Theresa was a former parishioner of St Mary's and Sacred Heart-Saint John in Wilkes-Barre and a parishioner of Corpus Christi Parish in West Pittston.

Theresa's husband of fifty-three years, M. Donald Murphy died on July 13, 2004. Her son Michael and his wife Rosemary and her brothers Emil, Leo, Raymond, Edward, and Donald Schappert also preceded her in death.

Her children Maureen and her husband Ron Sweeda of Summerville, SC, Karen Murphy and her husband Tom Maluchnik of Syracuse, NY, and Brian and his wife Michaelene Murphy of West Wyoming; grandchildren David and his wife Karen Murphy of Peshtigo, WI, Diane Sweeda of Charleston, SC, Cheryl Sweeda of Summerville, SC, and Christopher Murphy of West Wyoming; great-grandchildren Emma, Braedan, Colin, and Kayla Murphy of Peshtigo, WI; and other family and friends will miss her very much.

Theresa's family is grateful for the excellent care from the Highland Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice staff, especially her nurse, Garrett, and her aide, Crystal.

Celebration of Theresa's Life takes place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. Visitation begins at noon, and a Funeral Mass begins at 1 PM. The interment will be private.

Donations to Corpus Christi Social Concerns or the Amedisys Foundation of Compassionate Care Hospice are preferred and will honor Theresa's memory.
