Rory Patrick Sgarlat, 33, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 3rd.
Left to remember his life are his parents, Michael J. Sgarlat and Jean M. McCoskey Sgarlat. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Megan Sgarlat Prynn (Dale) and Caitlin Sgarlat Deluca (Otis); brothers, John Patrick, Liam, and Michael (Josh Barajas); nephews, Patrick Sgarlat, Sawyer Prynn, and Whitaker Deluca; and niece, Juniper Deluca.
Born in Kingston on June 22, 1989, Rory was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, Class of 2007, and Temple University, Class of 2011, where he majored in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
Rory truly cared for the environment, nature, and the world around him. He was an avid hiker and snowboarder. He worked in various positions in the field of environmental engineering until his passing.
Rory was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Joseph and Jean McCoskey and paternal grandparents Harry and Helen Sgarlat.
Rory was an incredible person, a wonderful son, loving brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and true and loyal friend. He was a strong-willed, thoughtful, caring, selfless, and truly genuine young man. He was known for his sense of humor, wit, intellect, and great taste in music, literature, and film. He had a profound impact on those he encountered. He was one of a kind and brought joy to all those who knew him. The heartbreak of his loss will be felt forever, but he will bring smiles to the faces of those who remember him.
Celebration of Rory’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 134 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA. There will be a gathering in the church, beginning at 10 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM.
