Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Mark A. Thomas, 79, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on July 14, 2026. He was a dedicated father, brother, and a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper who carried the pride of his service with him throughout his entire life.

To his core, Mark was a Pennsylvania State Trooper. He served his community with honor, loved the camaraderie of the job, and remained deeply connected to his brothers and sisters in blue long after his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed attending retiree gatherings and staying involved with the Fraternal Order of Police over the years.

Following his career in law enforcement, he transitioned to another of his life's passions: truck driving. He spent several years driving for local trucking companies, enjoying the work and the open road. He also worked seasonally at the power plant, where he was a proud and dedicated member of the Teamsters Local 229 in Scranton and Local 401 in Wilkes-Barre.

In his later years, Mark enjoyed a familiar and comfortable routine. He was a daily fixture at Abe's for morning breakfast, a tradition he rarely missed, and loved spending time on many of his days catching up and sharing stories with friends at Marv Carey's used car lot.

Above all, he was a loving and incredibly generous father. He possessed a selfless nature and would do absolutely anything for the people in his life. His presence will be terribly missed by his family, friends, and the community he served.

He is survived by his daughter, Erin; his son, Sean; three grandchildren, Connor and Zoe Thomas, and Mark Anderson; his sister, Karen; and other family and friends.

Celebration of Mark's Life takes place at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Visitation will be on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM. On Saturday, July 25, 2026, gathering begins at 10 AM and a service begins at 11 AM.
