Lorraine Flaherty

Lorraine Flaherty, 93, of Wilkes-Barre, passed into the Hands of the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Born July 29, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Steven and Mary Kunec.

Lorraine attended Plains High School and was a devoted member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas-Saint Mary and, previously, Holy Saviour Parish in Wilkes-Barre.

Lorraine enjoyed camping with friends and her ocean trips with her family. Gram was the life of the party, making everyone feel special. Enjoying her meals was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was an avid fan of Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lorraine loved her family; they were the center of her world. She made every holiday special, showing her love through her cooking and baking.

Famously known for Grandma Flaherty’s Peanut Butter Pie, everyone also loved her unforgettable rice pudding, banana cake, and nut roll.

Her brothers Steven and Richard Kunec, sister Barbara Derolf, and son-in-law Jude Steininger, Sr., preceded her in death.

Her children, Jerry and his wife Gale Flaherty, Mark and his wife Colleen Flaherty, and Mary Beth Steininger; grandchildren, Shawn and his wife Briane Flaherty, Brian and his wife Amy Flaherty, Jude and his wife Nicole Steininger, Nicole and her husband Kyle Emerick, and Christina and her husband Brandon Augustine; ten great-grandchildren; other family and friends will miss her very much.

Celebration of Lorraine’s Life takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the Church of the Parish of Saint Nicholas-Saint Mary. Visitation will be held from 8 to 9 AM. A Funeral Mass begins at 9:30 AM.

Donations to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org/donate , are preferred and will honor Lorraine’s memory.
