Karen Mather, 75, of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Born May 7, 1951 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Meta Lingertot Litzenberger.

A 1969 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Karen dedicated her life to caring for children. She cared for her own children and later became a devoted nanny in private childcare.

Karen enjoyed music and was a dedicated member of the junior and senior choirs at the Church of Saint Aloysius, as well as an ardent supporter of the Glee Club at Saint Aloysius School. She loved family vacations at the shore and celebrated all of the holiday traditions. She was known for her decorating prowess and for creating the most beautiful bows, which she shared with others through the parish bazaar and other events. In recent years, she became a fan of Hallmark Channel movies.

Her husband John G. Mather; daughter Molly and her husband Tim Donnelly of Boiling Springs; son Jason and his wife Megan Mather of Doylestown; grandsons Jacob and Mark Donnelly; sister Linda Gehris of Wilkes-Barre; brother Richard Litzenberger of Georgia; nieces Alexa Litzenberger and Deena Mahon; nephew Adam Litzenberger; other family and friends will miss her very much.

Karen’s entire family is grateful for the care she received from the entire staff of The Meadows.

Celebration of Karen’s Life takes place on Friday, September 18, 2026. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, and will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon in the Church of Saint Aloysius, Barney and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre.

Donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation, The Parkinson's Foundation , are preferred and will honor Karen’s memory.
