Joseph G. Gilroy

Joseph G. Gilroy, 82, of Washington Square in Wilkes-Barre died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born July 26, 1934 in Pittston he was a son of the late Charles and Rita Mulcahy Gilroy.

A graduate of Pittston High School, Joe served in the Army from 1957 to 1959.

Before retiring in 2005, Joe was a salesman and manager for Martin's Furniture in Elizabeth, New Jersey for forty years.

On May 23, 1959 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Barnes.

His twin-brother, Robert; brothers, Gerald, Donald, James and Dennis Gilroy and sisters, Mary Jean Lee and Marge Ribaudo preceded him in death.

Joe will be greatly missed by his wife, Phyllis; children, Joanne and her husband Erol Ata and Joseph G. Gilroy, Jr. of New Jersey; grandchildren, Angela, Nicholas and Giovanni Marinelli and Joseph, Amanda Rae and Haley Erin Gilroy; a brother, Martin Gilroy; sisters, Sally Sovan, Joan Ventrone and Rita Dominick; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held Sunday with visitation beginning at 2 PM and services at 3 PM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
