John C. Chamberlain of Mountain Top passed away into eternal life on June 15, 2026.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on August 29, 1943, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary Golden Chamberlain.

A graduate of Saint Mary's High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in English from King's College and his master's degree in English from the University of Scranton.

As a teacher, John was employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for over 30 years at E.L. Meyers High School, where he taught English Literature and Religious Literature.

John enjoyed baseball, music, domestic and international travel, reading, and spending time with family and friends, especially his three grandchildren. He was also a dedicated New York Yankees fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Barbara A. Simms Chamberlain, who was also an English teacher at E.L. Meyers High School for 31 years.

His daughter Cathy Wotring and her husband Brian Lanham of North East, Maryland; daughter Ellen Pettenato and her husband Rob of Clark, New Jersey; grandchildren Tyler, Morgan, and Parker Pettenato; sister Maureen Chamberlain of Hanover Township; dear friend of 65 years, Eugene Kovatch of Mountain Top; other family and many friends will miss him very much.

John's family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from the staff members at Geisinger Hospital, John Heinz Rehab Center, Birchwood Rehab Center, and Serenity Hospice of Pennsylvania.

A celebration of John's life begins Sunday, June 21, 2026, with visitation from 4 to 7 PM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, June 22, 2026, in the Church of Saint Jude in Mountain Top.

Donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital are preferred and will honor John's memory.
