Gilbert Fried, 80, of Wilkes-Barre died Friday.

Born May 31, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Frank and Blanche Myers Fried.

Gil was a 1951 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School.

Before retiring Gil was an audio-visual technician for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for many years. He was previously in business with his brother in the operation of W.E. Fried Meat Market until 1972.

Gil was a member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas and Saint Conrad's Y.M.S.

His wife, Patricia Swithers Fried died August 21, 2005. Brothers, William Eugene Fried and Francis 'Dewey' Fried and a sister, Shirley Fried also preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Len Fried of Alexandria, Virginia; brother, Albert Fried of Connecticut; sisters, Elner Fried of Wilkes-Barre, Mary Olshan of Tunkhannock and Theresa Blanche Fried of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Celebration of Gil’s Life will begin Sunday with visitation from 4 to 6 PM at McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 09:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown.

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to a hospice program or the Parish of Saint Nicholas.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Sunday from 4 to 6 PM
