Claire Mather Hine

Claire Mather Hine, 97, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
Born June 13, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre she was the daughter of the late Peter and Martha Geiger Mather.
A 1943 graduate of Coughlin High School, Claire enlisted in the Navy and honorably served our country from 1944 to 1946 as a Petty Officer stationed in Arlington, Virginia.
On May 14, 1953, Claire married Calvin Hine. They were married for forty-one years until his passing in 1994.
Before retiring, Claire worked in retail sales at Pomeroy's on Public Square.
Upon Cal's retirement as a Wilkes-Barre City Police Officer, they moved to Harvey's Lake, where they enjoyed having family get-togethers, boating on the lake, and relaxing.
Cal preceded Claire in death on November 2, 1994. She then moved to Carlisle to be closer to her family. There she found her constant companion, guardian, and killer chihuahua, Cally.
A devout Catholic, Claire was a parishioner of Saint Katherine Drexel in Mechanicsburg. Claire was also a member of the American Legion Post 672 in Dallas, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in Carlisle, and a former member of the LANI Post 6325 in Hudson.
Her brother Jack Mather and sister Irene Mather preceded her in death.
Claire was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Debby Hine Murphy and son-in-law Ed Murphy of Carlisle; grandsons Ed Murphy and wife Lauren of Severna Park, MD, Patrick Murphy and wife Michelle of Mechanicsburg, and Ryan Murphy and wife Cherish of Carlisle; great-grandchildren Addison, Cailyn, Brendan, Ethan, Ava, and Liam Murphy.
Claire's entire family is grateful to the Church of God Home staff in Carlisle for the love, care, and attention they gave Mom through her last years.
Celebration of Claire's Life takes place on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, with visitation beginning at 9 AM at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.
