Betty Jane Toole passed away in the presence of her loving family on December 31, 2025, one day shy of her 91st birthday.
Born in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Flynn Mullen.
Betty Jane graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1952. Thereafter, she began employment as a valued member of the trust department at Second National Bank. She worked there until she married her high school sweetheart, (Judge) Patrick J. Toole, Jr., and they started a romance that would continue for almost seventy years.
Betty Jane was the heart of our family. She proudly attended her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, and theatrical performances. She enjoyed her dinners with Dad at Hottle’s and Patte’s, and their getaways to Avalon, New Jersey, but nothing made her happier than cooking and entertaining the entire family on holidays. She had a calming way to make everyone feel included and special. She listened without judgment, and her love was unconditional. She will always be remembered for her beautiful perpetual smile.
Her husband, Judge Patrick J. Toole, Jr.; sons, Patrick and his wife Francine Toole, Dr. Joseph and his wife Ann Toole, Michael and his wife Atty. Donna Toole; daughter and best friend, Dr. Lisa Toole DeMichele and her husband Edward; grandchildren Jenny, Derek, Hannah, Katie, Bryan, Michael, Kristen, Thomas, and Beth; great-grandchildren Jackson, Emerson, Donovan, Bennett, Berlin, Harper, Brooks, and Briar; her loving brother Joseph and his wife Maureen Mullen; and many adored nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss her very much.
Betty Jane was a proud member of the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center's initial board of directors. Donations to the CYC are preferred and will honor Betty Jane’s memory.
“A mother’s love lives on in the hearts of her children forever.”
