Ann Marie Shovlin Hawkins, 86, of Plano, Texas, passed away on July 2, 2026.

Born on April 16, 1940 in Plymouth she was a daughter of the late Paul Henry and Anna Catherine O’Donnell Shovlin.

Ann received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Misericordia University in 1962, and then married James Joseph Hawkins, Jim, of Ashley, Pennsylvania, in 1962.

Ann taught science at E.L. Meyers High School until the birth of her first child in 1963. Ann and Jim shared a love of travel, especially to Hawaii and other tropical destinations. Ann was the solid, loving core of her family, with the most joyous laugh, smile, and hugs. This joy extended to anyone around her, whether she was at a party, church event, garden club meeting, or really anywhere, because she had the ability to make friends with everyone she met. Ann and Jim moved together from Pennsylvania to Michigan, then to Connecticut, and finally to Plano, Texas, in 1980.

Ann’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brother, and other extended family members. Ann was a proud nationally accredited flower show judge and a member of many garden clubs, including The Plano Garden Club, Dallas Flower Lovers, and The Dallas Daffodil Society. Ann was also an active member of the Women’s Group at her home parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Ann’s greatest gifts were her impeccable manners, warm hospitality, quiet confidence, and most especially her kind and loving heart.

Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death on June 11, 2006.

Ann is survived by her sisters, Catherine and her husband Bal Martin of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Marie and her husband Charlie McCormick of Wilkes-Barre, brother Paul and his wife Sue Shovlin of Laflin; children Jim and his wife Ellen Hawkins of Cypress, Texas, Katie and her husband Rick Hartig of Orlando, Florida, and Suzie Hawkins of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Jimmy and his wife Thuy, Danny and his wife Savie, Susie, Bridget and Max, great grandchildren Nate, Philip, Frances, Drew, Samuel and Annie; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Kovalcik of Denver, North Carolina and Janie Avis of Sewell, New Jersey; and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. Ann is deeply loved and will be greatly missed but not forgotten. Ann will always be in the hearts of her family and friends.

Celebration of Ann’s Life began with a Funeral Mass at the Church of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano, Texas. It continues on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with visitation from 10 to 11 AM at McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre, followed by a graveside service at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township, where Ann will be buried next to Jim.

The family is grateful to the loving staff of The Family’s Choice, who cared for Ann during her last years, and for all of Ann’s friends who have continued to be a large part of her life after her dementia diagnosis.

Donations to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, Pennsylvania 18901, are preferred and will honor Ann’s memory.
