Valentine R. Montedonico

July 2, 1916 - June 12, 2013

Valentine R. Montedonico, 96, of Venice, Florida and a former resident of Shavertown died Wednesday at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Born July 2, 1916 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Santino and Lucia Rigoni Montedonico. An Army veteran of World War II he served as a medic in the European Theater. Val was a foreman and salesman for Dolly Madison Ice Cream before retiring after thirty-one years with the company. He later worked as a manager for Park and Lock garages in Wilkes-Barre before moving to Florida in 1980. Val was a former member of the Parish of Saint Therese in Shavertown. His Beloved wife of fifty-five years, Emily Lenczewski Montedonico died April 9, 2000. He will be greatly missed by his children, Russell of Somerville, New Jersey, Richard of Venice, Florida and Joan Grieder of Newark, Delaware; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Frank of Rotunda, Florida. He is predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Robert, and John. Celebration of Valentine’s Life will be held Monday with a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Therese on Pioneer Avenue in Shavertown. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in West Wyoming. Arrangements by McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service.
