Thomas Francis Carr

Thomas Francis Carr, 83, of Rutter Avenue in Kingston died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born April 28, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary Golden Carr.

A 1944 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Tom earned his bachelor of science from East Stroudsburg University and master of education from Bucknell University.

As a professional educator, Tom's teaching career started in the Jim Thorpe School District, where he was a football coach for four years. He retired from Dallas School District after thirty-five years as a science teacher and guidance counselor.

Mr. Carr was a member of the Parish of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Bishop William J. Hafey Assembly Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus Council 302. He was active in coaching with Kingston Baseball and served as the first manager and as a board member of the Kingston Pool. He also served on the boards of the Catholic Youth Center and Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley, for which he was a volunteer.

His wife, Edith Ramsey Carr died January 12, 2002. A brother, Donald Carr and sister, Aileen Kosta also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his children, Deborah and her husband James Poperowitz of Kingston, Patricia and her husband Jim Duffy of Alexandria, Virginia, Karen Carr of Allentown and Thomas Carr of Kingston; grandchildren, Kelly and Keaton Carr and Meghan, Eryn and Michael Poperowitz; and a sister: Claire McNamara of San Diego, California

Celebration of Thomas’s Life will be held Friday at 09:00 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 09:30 AM in Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM

Memorial donations are preferred and may be made to Parish of Saint Ignatius, 339 North Maple Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704-3360, or Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley, 190 South Sprague Avenue, Kingston, 18704-3415
