Susan Hryvnak Watkins

October 7, 1947 — January 31, 2022

Susan Hryvnak Watkins, 74, a longtime resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully following an illness on January 31, 2022.

Born October 7, 1947 in Hanover Township she was the daughter of the late Russell and Venetta Johnson Hryvnak.

A 1965 graduate of Hanover High School, Susan volunteered her time as a candy striper at the former Mercy Hospital.

Susan worked at The Boston Store and in the Luzerne County Courthouse offices before taking time off to raise her sons. She later worked for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District in the Library at Dodson Elementary School. Susan retired as Assistant Controller of the Luzerne County Transportation Authority.

Susan was an enthusiastic reader and puzzler. She enjoyed gardening and decorating, and she loved her Siberian Huskies.

Susan also loved her family. Her husband of more than fifty years, Larry; sons, Christian of Ottsville and Brian of Kington; brother, Russell and his wife Karen of Blakeslee; niece, Michelle; nephew, Russell; other family and friends will miss her very much.

Celebration of Susan's Life includes visitation from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Mask and social distancing protocols will be in effect.

Donations to the SPCA of Wyoming Valley or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will honor Susan's memory.
