Rita Stephens

Rita M. Stephens, 93, formerly of Wilkes-Barre died Thursday at Mercy Center in Dallas.

Born June 25, 1919 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mary Harkins Corbett.

Rita was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School.

Mrs. Stephens was a long time member of the former Parish of Saint Therese and the Wyoming Valley Women's Club.

Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Rita made her life at home with the door always open as a happy gathering place for family and friends.

Her husband, John R. Stephens died March 11, 1982. Sisters, Mary Kittrick, Helen Senunas, Roberta Fonash and Agnes Wallace, and brothers, Andrew and Thomas Corbett also preceded her in death.

She will be greatly missed by her children, John R. Stephens of Wrightsville, Kathleen R. Stephens of Wilkes-Barre, Patricia Carr of Wilkes-Barre, Maureen (Bunny) Loughney of Kingston, James T. and his wife Claire Stephens of Wilkes-Barre, Mark A. Stephens of Margate, New Jersey, and Lisa and her husband Bernard Banas of Hershey; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Corbett of Archbald; nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held Monday with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Mercy Center in Dallas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
