Owen McGlynn

April 21, 1934 — March 27, 2011

Owen B. McGlynn, Jr. of Rockville, Maryland and formerly of Wilkes-Barre died Sunday, March 27th at the age of 76.

Born April 21, 1934 in Wilkes-Barre he was a son of the late Owen B. and Carolyn Roos McGlynn.

Mac began his career with the Navy Gun Factory in 1953. From 1956 until 1958 he served a tour of duty in the US Army. In 1959, he accepted an appointment to the Naval Surface Warfare Center (known as the Naval Ordinance Lab) as an engineering draftsman in 1959. On July 14, 1993, Mr. McGlynn retired from the Navy Department.

During his more than forty years of service, Mac received numerous Special Act awards. In addition, he worked on numerous projects which included: Advanced Sea Mines, MK 48 Torpedo, CAPTOR Mine MK 60, Surface Ship Torpedo Defense, Submarine Launch Mobile Mines and the layout of the AEGIS Building.

Mac will be missed by his life-long friends, Glenn W. and Christine Forester, their daughter Kate Forester of South Riding, VA., Godson, Glenn M. Forester of Alexandria, Va. and Jason Forester of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and cousins: Charles Roos, Mary Coughlin, Joan Roos, Babe and Rusty Kunkle, Jim Roos, Kathy Roos and Jim O’Hara.

Celebration of Mac’s Life will be held on Friday, April 1st from 10 to 11 AM at McLaughlin’s Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Donations are preferred and may be made In Memory of Owen B. McGlynn to Georgetown University Hospital Foundation, Office of Philanthropy, Georgetown University Hospital, Hospital Administration, 3800 Reservoir Road, Washington, D.C. 20007.
