Mary Halter

Mary M. Halter, 94, passed away peacefully into the hands of her Lord on Saturday, July 30th.
Born January 4, 1917 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late George J. and Anna Schappacher Proeller.
A 1935 graduate of Saint Nicholas High School, Mary was a life-long member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas and its Altar and Rosary Society.
Mary had a smile that would light up a room. She was an avid dominoes player who enjoyed playing with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or anyone who dared to sit at the table across from her.
Mary was devoted to her husband, Paul J. Halter who passed away in October 1988. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bernard Yashkus, grandson, Matthew Halter, sisters, Teresa Knauer, Alice A. Halter, Rita Hill and Elizabeth Bitzer and brothers, George E., Francis C., James T. and William H. Proeller.
A loving and caring mother, she will be missed by her six children, Paul J. Halter, Jr. and his wife Wileen of Evansville, Indiana, Joseph J. Halter and his wife Thea of St. Charles, Illinois, Robert G. Halter and his wife Mary of Sugar Notch, Rosemarie Yashkus of Plains, M. Carol Stoodley and her husband Ivor of Hunlock Creek and Elizabeth Kwashnik and her husband Henry of Easton, Maryland; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph R. Proeller of Wilkes-Barre and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary's entire family is grateful to the Carmelite Sisters and staff of Little Flower Manor for their special care and attention while she was a resident there.
Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held Wednesday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Nicholas' Cemetery in Shavertown.
Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM
