Marie Olympia Mahon

Marie Olympia Nardone Mahon, affectionately known as “Aunt Limpy” by her many loving nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 7th at Allied Meade Street Skilled Nursing.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 17, 1923, Marie was a proud graduate of GAR Memorial High School Class of 1942. After graduation, she served as a WAVE in The United States Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas. Marie was the recipient of The American Campaign Ribbon and Victory Ribbon, which recognize those military members who performed military service during World War II. She often told stories of her time in the Navy and described it as the best times of her life.
Marie married the love of her life, Harold T. Mahon in 1951 at Holy Rosary Church in Wilkes-Barre. They lived in Atlantic City, NJ for a short period of time before returning home to PA to be with family. An excellent cook, extraordinary homemaker, and dedicated caregiver, Marie provided loving care to her husband, parents, and several brothers and sisters over many decades. Although Marie never had children of her own, she was always surrounded by family and her many nieces and nephews, who loved her like a mom.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold T. Mahon, parents Alfonso and Anna (Colarusso) Nardone, sisters Clementine Nardone and Mary Nardone Cramer, and brothers Joseph Nardone, Alfonso Nardone, Thomas Nardone, Anthony Nardone, Peter Nardone, and Angelo Nardone.
She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, her enjoyment of sports (including a little horse racing!), overwhelming generosity, feisty personality, and unwavering love of family.
Celebration of Marie’s Life will be on Thursday, November 12th with visitation beginning at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, 40 Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre.
Mask and social distancing protocols will be in effect.
