Marguerite Ritz, 82, formerly of Wilkes-Barre and Luzerne and a resident of Farmington Hills, Michigan for the past eighteenth months died Sunday at Saint Mary’s Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
Born January 27, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late Fred C. and Helen Lisman Ritz.
Marguerite was a graduate of Saint Nicholas High School.
Miss Ritz was employed by Melody Shoe Company in Wilkes-Barre and later worked in the office of the Luzerne County Housing Authority for many years.
A member of the Parish of Saint Nicholas, Marguerite devoted a great amount of her time to ministry and volunteering locally with The Peace and Justice Center, Catherine McAuley House, St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen, and with St. Mary's Mercy Hospital and Red Cross in Michigan. She was a Mercy Associate, served on the board of directors of Catholic Social Services, and was a local co-founder of Pax Christi and Mercy Connections.
Surviving are her brother, Fred J. Ritz and sister-in-law, Joan Schappert Ritz of Farmington Hills, Michigan; nieces and nephews, Joan and her husband Greg Strohm of Lutz, Florida, Patti and her husband Tom Caprara of Franklin, Tennessee, Fred and his wife Leslie Ritz of Simi Valley, California, Jim and his wife Ann Ritz of Northville, Michigan, Chuck and his wife Darlene Ritz of Linden, Michigan, Jeff and his wife Stephanie Ritz of Livonia, Michigan, and Jo Ellen and her husband Ken Dorony of South Lyon, Michigan; sixteen great-nieces and –nephews; two great-great nieces.
Celebration of Marguerite’s Life will be held Saturday at 9 AM from McLaughlin's Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in Church of Saint Nicholas. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 PM
