John Charles Blochberger

John Charles Blochberger, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at eighty-one on December 10, 2020.
John was born on January 13, 1939 in Kingston, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Theresa Blochberger. He was a 1956 graduate of Kingston High School.
After high school, John enlisted in the Army, rising to Specialist 5 in the US Army's Quartermaster Corps. While in the Army, John served in several stateside assignments and served a three-year overseas term in Germany. John was honorably discharged from the Army in 1960.
Returning to civilian life, John moved back to northern New Jersey, where he met the love of his life, Philomena "Phyllis" Josephine Byrne.
On June 1, 1963, John and Phyllis were married and established their home in Ogdensburg, New Jersey. Children soon followed as they welcomed their daughter Karen in 1964, son Sean in 1965, and daughter Donna in 1969.
In 1977, John graduated from William Paterson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. Notably, John finished his degree in four years despite simultaneously supporting a family and holding a full-time job.
In 1978, John, Phyllis, and the children moved to Arizona, where they settled in Glendale. During this time, John spent many hours attending his children's school activities and sports events, enjoying the warm weather, and appreciating Arizona's natural beauty. As a transplant to Arizona, John spent a lot of time with his family as they visited many cultural sites and points of interest around the state.
Professionally, John worked in materials management for Revlon, Inc. He retired in 2001. John also took an active part in the Arizona Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), serving as chapter president from 1985 to 1986.
After retiring, John and Phyllis spent much of their time traveling to exotic locations, attending family events, and visiting their children and grandchildren.
John's wife, Phyllis, preceded him in death on October 12, 2019.
John's children and their spouses, Karen & Allan, Sean & Aurora, Donna & Keith; and grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Joseph, and Emily will miss him much.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Celebration of John's Life includes a Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 17, 2021 in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 130 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Interment in Saint Mary's Cemetery will follow.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of John are preferred.
