Jack Gibbons

June 25, 1939 — November 9, 2013

John P. ‘Jack’ Gibbons, 74, of Exeter died at his home on Saturday, November 9th following metastatic melanoma.

Jack was born in Scranton, the son of the late Anne Powell and Eugene Gibbons. He was a 1957 graduate of Scranton Central High School, where he was an All-Scholastic student and basketball player; and the University of Scranton with a degree in philosophy.

Jack was an ardent reader of history, politics, and Irish culture and history; and he enjoyed puns, golf, and New York City, where he met his wife and lived for a decade in the 1960s. He was an actor and director in Wyoming Valley and Scranton community theatre for many years and was the recipient of several Northeastern Pennsylvania Theatrical Alliance awards for both acting and directing. He worked as a certified insurance agent at Wilson H. Flock, Inc. for over thirty years until his death.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Kate of Exeter and Bridget of Baltimore; sister, Patricia and her husband Frank Caroselli of Annandale, New Jersey; nieces, Maura Caroselli and her husband Luis Aguayo of New Jersey and Lisa Caroselli and her husband David Hatton of Brooklyn; great-nephew, Dante Aguayo; step-granddaughter, Keighlyn Alber; the family cats; extraordinary friends and extended family.

Celebration of Jack’s Life will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, PA 18704, your favorite public library, or the Democratic Party.
