Helen Rosalie Mercadante

June 26, 1942 — February 3, 2017

Helen Rosalie (Krugel) Mercadante, 74, of Wilkes-Barre passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 26, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lebra (Cesare) Krugel. She was a 1960 graduate of the former Plains High School where she was a majorette and standout student. Helen was employed by the Social Security Administration at the Wilkes-Barre Data Operations Center for twenty-two years.

Helen was known as “Momma Merc” to not only her ten children, but to their friends and neighbors as well, “Nona” to her Grandchildren and “Hellcat” to her co-workers. She was an avid supporter of all her children and grandchildren in all their interests, whether it be attending sporting events, plays and recitals, Sunday family dinners, parades with all of the kids, and of course the many birthday parties she hosted at her home. She was always good for her sense of humor, her views on life, and of course her sassy personality that nobody could ever forget!

Helen will be greatly missed by her husband of fifty-two years, Carmen Mercadante, Sr.; children, oldest to youngest: Carmen, Jr. and wife Linda of Stroudsburg, Sonya and companion Dale Bartnick of Courtdale, Nina and husband Greg Ziomek of Wethersfield, Connecticut, Gina McCloe of Wilkes-Barre, Vince and wife Jennifer of Plains, Gino and wife Katie of Northampton, Anthony and companion Kaycee Hughes of Wilkes-Barre, Bianca and husband Len Macking of Wilkes-Barre, Carlo and fiancé Brittany Stevens of Forty Fort, Corinna of Wilkes-Barre; along with nineteen grandchildren; brother, Leo Krugel and his wife Cathy of Plains; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
