Hannah Scanlon

Hannah C. Duffy Scanlon, 100, formerly of Ashley and Hanover Township passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday at Saint Luke's Villa where she had been an assisted living resident.

Born December 26, 1913 in Sugar Notch she was a daughter of the late Philip P. Duffy who was the borough police chief and Bridget H. Kane Duffy.

Hannah was a longtime member of the Church of Saint Aloysius.

Her husband, Theodore P. Scanlon died January 25, 1956. Sisters, Mary and Margaret Duffy and brothers, Philip P. and James D. Duffy also preceded her in death.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Ann Marie and her husband James Getter of Annapolis, Maryland; son, James P. and his wife Robin Scanlon of Williamsport; granddaughters, Alexis and her husband Travis Simmons of New Richmond, Wisconsin and Aurielle Scanlon of Columbus, Ohio; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Eileen Schmidt of Sugar Notch and Zita Speer of Monticello, New York; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

The entire family extends thanks to Dr. Kerrigan and the nurses and staff of Saint Luke’s Villa and Erwine Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Hannah over the years, and a special thank you to Mary Ellen Schaffer, her niece, whose untiring efforts provided assistance and comfort.

Celebration of Hannah’s Life will be held Friday at 9 AM from McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the Church of Saint Aloysius. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Thursday from 3 to 6 PM.
