Dorothy Drugan

Dorothy Drugan, 90, of South Grant Street in Wilkes-Barre passed away Tuesday, January 1st at Mercy Center in Dallas.

Born February 11, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late James and Hattie Bryce.

Dorothy was very civic-minded and took great interest in the community. She was an organizer of the Heights Little League and served as secretary for twelve years, and also organized the Grant Street School and Home League, serving as its first president. She served as city chairperson of numerous heart and cancer fund-raising efforts.

Dorothy was active in local politics and served as Chairperson of the Wilkes-Barre City Democratic Committee, Chairperson of the Sixth Legislative District Democratic Committee and Vice-Chairperson of the Luzerne County Democratic Committee. She was a Democratic Committeewoman in the Sixth Ward for fifty-four years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Drugan, daughter, Aileen Miller, son, Joseph A. Drugan, Jr., sisters, Mary Adams, Nellie Hall, Margaret McGlynn and Loretta Gattuso, and brothers, Michael, George, William and Edward Bryce.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Kathleen and her husband Harry Vogt of Bear Creek Village; grandchildren, Joseph Drugan, III and Kaelie Drugan of Virginia, Harry Vogt, III of Arkansas, Eric Vogt of Mountain Top, Aileen Taylor of Bear Creek Village, Cathie Mault of Philadelphia, Lauren Miller of Plains, Kristen Martinelli of Dupont and Amy Yenason of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Evan, Arden and Ryan Taylor of Bear Creek, Eric, Jr., Julia and Justin Vogt of Mountain Top, Madison and Connor Vogt of Arkansas, Nola and Desmond Mault of Philadelphia, Timmy Moore of Plains, Aileen Overman and Gianna Martinelli of Dupont and Isabelle Albert of Bear Creek.

Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held Friday at 8:30 AM from McLaughlin’s – The Family Funeral Service, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin’s on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM.
