Albert J. Malachefski

May 16, 1950 — August 6, 2014

Albert J. Malachefski, 64, of Hanover Township was in the presence of his loving family when he passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Celtic Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 16, 1950 in Kingston he was a son of the late Aloysius and Bernadine Bamrick Malachefski.

A graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School he was a sports fan and was a coach for the Women's Softball League and mini football of Plymouth and Little League baseball team of Post 609 in Hanover Township. Al was a volunteer fireman and active member of Hose Company No. 2 in Plymouth.

Al was an active member of the Hanover Area Band Parents Association for seven years, doing everything from driving the equipment truck, making props, pit crew member and cook in the Band Stand at home football games.

Al was employed by InterMetro Industries for twenty years and was an usher and supervisor at Mohegan Sun Arena for ten years.

Al was a loving husband, father and brother. His kind heart touched the lives of many. He will be greatly missed by his soul mate and wife of thirty-seven years, Jody; daughter, Jennifer Wroblewski and her husband Steve of Hanover Township; sons, John and his wife Kelly of Lehighton and Daniel and Erica Nallon of Hanover Township; brothers, Donald DeFranco and his wife Bettyanne of Williamsburg, Virginia and Edward of Hanover Township. He was the proud and loving PaPa of Addyson Wroblewski and Zachary Malachefski. And, last but not least, his two pet dogs, Chloe and Bella.

Al's entire family is grateful for the doctors and nurses at University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia; Dr. John Bobeck, who was more than just his doctor, he was his friend; and especially the nurses, whom we like to think of as the Angels from the Fourth Floor East at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, for their kind and loving care and support during the final months of Al's life.

Celebration of Al’s Life will be held Monday at 10:30 AM from McLaughlin’s, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in the Church of All Saints in Plymouth. Entombment will be in Saint Mary's Mausoleum in Hanover Township.

Visitation will be held at McLaughlin's on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
