Raymond John Majikes of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday, August 11th at the Celtic
Hospice Inpatient Unit, South Wilkes-Barre after a three year battle with cancer.

Born August 24, 1948 in Wilkes- Barre, Ray was a son of the late Charles and Theresa Lowery Majikes.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and was the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award at the inaugural Robert McGrane Basketball Tournament held at the Wyoming Valley CYC.

Ray attended Luzerne County Community College and was a member of the school’s State Community College Championship team. After his education, Ray served in the United States Navy from 1968 -1972 and was awarded the Campaign Service Medal Award.

Ray was employed as a correction officer at the State Correctional Institute, Dallas for twenty years until his retirement.

Surviving are brother: Frank (Bronko) and his wife Lore, Wilkes-Barre, Bob, Wilkes-Barre, Marty and his wife Donna, Exeter, Charles and his wife Lisa, Wilkes-Barre, Jimmy and his wife Cheryl, Pottstown, John and his wife Mary, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Valerie and husband Charles Manfre, Hanover Twp., Patricia and husband Joseph Rodzinak, Barbara and husband Donny Smith, Jeanmarie and husband Jim Ryan, Maureen and husband Brian Grohowski all of Wilkes-Barre. Ray is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a large extended family of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by Uncle Joe Majikes and nephew Jarad Grohowski.

Ray was a member of American Legion Post 815, F.O.E. 351, Promised Land Sportsmen Club and was a charter member of Blinky's Garage Social Club which met every Sunday. He enjoyed pitching for the Zalewski's and Anthracite Roosters slow pitch championship teams and was the co-founder of the famous 2 on 2 Majikes' basketball tournaments. Ray enjoyed the numerous family socials and vacationing with his relatives and attending his nephews, nieces and cousins school and athletic events. He was truly a SPECIAL person and will be greatly missed by everyone.

The family wishes to thank the medical and nursing staffs at General Hospital 5-East and the
Celtic Hospice In-Patient Unit at Geisinger South for their outstanding care and support.

Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held Saturday with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in the Church of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 130 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 11 AM.
